After breakfast I walked around the town of Marigot for a little bit. The damage done by the hurricanes 2-years ago is still very evident but the people are working diligently to rebuild. I walked down to the marina and then decided I wanted a better view of the area. I looked at my map and found the route up to Fort Louis (an 18th century defensive position). Following a steep walk up the hill in flip flops I reached the top of Marigot Hill where the fort resides. The fort itself is pretty cool and they still have some cannons spread around the grounds where they would have been emplaced. The best part by far was the awesome panoramic view of the area including Simpson Bay lagoon and Marigot Bay. after hanging out up at the top for a while I wandered back to Shrimpy's taking a slightly different route just for fun. After a stop at one of the local markets to get some apples and a couple snacks I got back.
By now it was getting close to lunch, I had heard about a place just down the road that sold Donner Kebap and I wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately for me they were closed, on a Saturday no less, so I decided to stop by the grocer that was on my way back. While I didn't get the Donner I had desired I did manage to get a nice fresh baguette and some soft cheese to go with it. I got back to Shrimpy's and enjoyed the view from the veranda while enjoying most of the baguette with the cheese as a spread with a nice fresh apple, not a bad lunch to be sure.
After a leisurely afternoon hanging out on the veranda I decided to walk into Marigot to get dinner. I discovered that even fewer restaurants were open than I expected (my expectations were not high) for a Saturday night. I eventually settled on Ahrawak which is in the market area across from the ferry terminal. I had a good dinner of Thai Beef (beef with noodles, onion and peppers) and then walked back to Shrimpy's. The plan for the rest of the evening is to drink a couple beers and watch the Taropon and Snook feed in the canal behind the veranda.
